And the adventure starts…

I’m finally in Bangkok, on my first full day. Travel started with a canceled flight, and a suitcase dropped on my head during flight boarding. It can only get better. Right?

While conventional wisdom, after an 18 hour flight, would have led me to take a taxi from the airport to my hotel, I decided that because it was the middle of the day and I had lots of time, I would take the train from the airport to my hotel (Of course, I’ve watched all of the YouTube videos about how to do this quickly and easily.) Good way to get acclimated. The airport train took me to downtown Bangkok, and then I had to navigate taking the Sky train to my hotel. Needless to say, it wasn’t easy and by the time I got to the hotel I was tired and cranky.

But, I strolled around the neighborhood a bit. Scoped out the massage places and had a bit of street food. Went back to the hotel to connect my laptop to the internet and ran into issues getting connected. That was about the time that I ALMOST had a total meltdown. I asked myself why I thought it was necessary to put myself through this when I could have stayed home where everything is easier.

After about 11 hours of sleep, I bounced back. I had breakfast with a 74 year old Dutchman who lives at the hotel, and then spent the day sightseeing (yes, using the train system without getting lost), so I’m feeling pretty good about myself.

  1. OMG, what a way to start your trip! I would have had a total meltdown. You are the strongest, bravest, and most resilient woman that I know, and if anyone can bounce back, it’s you. You should feel very good about yourself; I could never do what you are doing. I love that you had breakfast with the Dutchman, and that he lives in the hotel. I think you made your first friend! Your pictures are amazing; you are on your way girl!

    Love ya!
