Long take on a short trip

I should be in Cambodia…

On this date, I should be in Cambodia, exploring the spectacular ruins of Ankor Wat. But, that will have to wait for another time. My world travel adventure only lasted a couple of months rather than the 5 months I planned on.

Surgery update

Due to my fall in Vietnam, I’m back home in the US and have undergone surgery for a serious rotator cuff injury. Although things are going well, it’s going to be a long recovery. I will likely be in a sling until mid-April. It will take about 6 months to be back to somewhat normal motion, but it will take a year to fully recover. (Lots of physical therapy in my future) I am hoping to start my travel again in September, in Spain. My youngest son is planning to join me, so can help me out if needed.

It’s been a tough few weeks, but I’m trying to stay focused on the positive rather than just feeling sorry for myself. I have a great support system of family and friends, and I’m enjoying being able to relax without plotting my next travel gig.

Back to “normal”

I’m back to exercising and walking every day, and I try to look at the scenery around me as someone who has never been to the Pacific NW and appreciate the sights through fresh eyes. I’m also appreciating being able to walk on sidewalks that are not crumpled or blocked. And, not having to walk on the street, dodging cars and motorcycles is also refreshing.

And, although it is not currently raining, it’s cloudy. But, the weather is pleasant, and I’m enjoying being able to walk outside without having to come back in and shower to cool off.

Hi Joetta, there is a reason you are back home (I am sure you have heard it a million times by now). I am sure you learned a lot in your short start to your adventure and will use that knowledge when you head out again. Spain sounds lovely. I still really want to go to Sardenia so when you get to that point, please loop me in. Will you be with Gretchen the whole time you are recovering? I am pursuing for you. I also forgot to ask you if you did any damage to your face since you fell forward. Love you my friend.

Joetta, please know I think of you often and am praying recovery goes quickly. I still have dreams of being together in Sardinia. I need to get a plan in place on where I go after December. I expect I will come back here and be close to my parents. They are both aging quicker than my sister and I are ready for. I am sure we will stay in touch. love you! Cheryl
