Paris, Paris, Paris

I try not to have to any expectations (tough, I know) for visiting new places. I would prefer to experience each location as it comes. However, Paris is one of those places that it’s almost impossible to not have preconceived notions about, because it is such a popular destination. It did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and am looking forward to going back.

Notre-Dame de Paris

The history of the Cathedral is closely linked to the history of France. Built in the 12th century, modified in the 18th century, and restored in the 19th century, it is the symbol of Christian worship in Paris through the centuries.

Following a fire on April 15, 2019, which destroyed the medieval framework and the spire of the cathedral it has undergone major renovations and has opened again to the public. Restoration is still underway on the exterior of the building.

The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is an iconic landmark in France. You can hardly think of Paris without thinking of this monument. It was on my list to “must see.”

From my first glimpse of the tower through the trees to seeing it up close, I was completely enthralled. The only other time I’ve been this enchanted about seeing a famous landmark/item, was seeing the statue of David in Florence, Italy. Both were almost spiritual experiences. Can’t explain it. Won’t even try, but there it is.

The top of the tower was closed, so I climbed to the first level. Thought about going to the 2nd level, but it the stairs are long and steep, and I don’t think the view would have been any better.

Old, new friends

I had lunch with someone I worked with years ago. We were not friends, and had barely even spoken to her, but when I found she was living in Paris, we connected and had lunch. (Thank you, Michelle, for connecting us!)

It was such a pleasure to get to know her. Spending time with people you know, while traveling, is priceless.
