Las Coloradas Pink Pools
The pink pools of Las Coloradas are famous for their striking bubble-gum hues, created by high salt concentrations and microorganisms like red algae and brine shrimp. These shallow salt evaporation ponds change intensity throughout the day, glowing brightest under strong sunlight. These shallow evaporation ponds are part of an active salt-harvesting operation, where seawater is channeled and left to crystallize under the sun before the salt is collected. The area is still an active salt-harvesting site, which is why visitors can only view the pools from designated paths. An amazing site!

Ria Lagartos
Ría Lagartos is a protected biosphere reserve on Mexico’s Yucatán coast, known for its dramatic wetlands, mangroves, and shallow lagoons. It’s one of the best places in the region to see wild flamingos, along with crocodiles, pelicans, and a wide variety of migratory birds. Boat tours glide through narrow channels and open water, revealing changing colors in the lagoon caused by salt and microorganisms. The area’s quiet fishing villages and untouched landscapes give it a remote, almost timeless feel.
