Cerbère…just another beautiful village on the Mediterranean

Cerbère

This quaint town is just a 20 minute train ride from Argeles-sur-mer, close to the border of Spain. It offers a unique blend of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and cultural richness. It’s often overshadowed by the more populated cities nearby helping it retain its eclectic, off-the-beaten path coastal vibe.

The train station is on the hill overlooking the town, but there was no clear direction as to how to navigate my way down. Just heading down the hill seemed like the best option.

Not far down, I saw a sign that pointed to the direction to the village. It turned out that the shortcut was actually a tunnel of some sort, and it was covered by graffiti. You see a lot of graffiti in France (and in Spain), and it’s considered artwork and left up rather than being painted over.

So, I decided to take the tunnel, since it as least pointed to the village. The tunnel went down and down and seemed to go on forever. The walls were covered in graffiti and it was pretty cool. About the time that I was starting to get nervous about where I was headed, I saw a very bright light and realized I was getting to the end.

And…the bright light was the sunshine glancing off the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. I exited onto the beach, pretty relieved to be out of the tunnel.

Time to find coffee!

Just another beautiful day in France!
