France: Visiting friends in Bergerac

Bergerac

Bergerac is a charming town located in the Dordogne area of southwestern France, known for its historic center, beautiful vineyards, and rich cultural heritage. It is also famous for its association with the literary character Cyrano de Bergerac.

My friends, Carrie & Greg, moved from Washington State to Bergerac last year. I was very excited to see them and meet their daughter, son-in-law and their beautiful grandson (whom I fell in love with)!

The area is beautiful, and we took a road trip to various cities and to a magnificent castle. We enjoyed an amazing meal at The Walnut, in Eymet, France that ended with a bacon (yes, bacon) chocolate chip cake topped with ice cream and caramel. It was delicious.

Château de Biron: A Castle in France

The Château de Biron was built in the 12th century. The castle then underwent various periods of improvement that continued until the 18th century: during this entire period it was owned by the Gontaut-Biron family.

With the revolution in France the castle again fell to neglect, and the family once again had to fight to keep and improve the Chateau de Biron. They retained the castle until 1978 when the family sold it to the state after owning it for 24 generations.
