Long-tail boat ride on the canal and other fun stuff

So, back at it again after getting some much needed rest. This time I booked a boat tour on the canal. Wasn’t interested in repeating yesterday’s debacle at the floating market. This would get me on a boat AND to the floating market. The canal ride was about 2 hours. The Chao Phraya River feeds the canal, so we had to go through a lock system to get onto the canal. The views ranged from temples and mansions to shanties that looked like they were on the last leg (post) and about ready to fall into the canal. Makes you realize how much we take for granted in our cozy little world.

Yesterday, I went to “Little India” to the Baiyoke Hotel, the tallest hotel in Bangkok, to the 81st floor observatory. It was a bit smoggy but the views showed how large the city is. Pretty astonishing.

Today, I went to the Sky Park that goes over the Chao Phraya River. Great views, but quite hot. Headed back to the hotel and going to go for another Thai massage.

This trip has so far been wonderful, oftentimes frustrating and overwhelming, but without a doubt the best thing I’ve done for myself in a very long time. I started in Thailand for the weather, but it has thrown me in at the deep end, and if I can navigate Bangkok, not much else can intimidate me. I wake up every day excited to see what the day holds. I am so grateful that I have this opportunity, and I plan to make the most of it.
